Doja Cat's new album called VIE

Her fifth album is conceived as a balance: Doja no longer chooses between rapper and pop star — she’s both at once. Blending bright choruses with sharp verses, she delivers a love story filled with seduction, jealousy, arguments, breakups, and the longing to reunite

Why VIE?

The title VIE carries multiple meanings. It refers to the number five — a nod to Doja’s fifth album — and she even got three Roman numeral V’s tattooed, a symbol that ties this project to Amala and Scarlet. The Roman numeral itself reminded her of the French word Vie (“life”).

But above all, it’s a statement: for Doja, there can be no life without love. The album becomes an exploration of this vital connection, with each track reflecting a different facet of human relationships.

She also explained that she wanted to explore the 1980s — a decade she didn’t live through but reimagines in her own way, through synths and retro sonorities.

Finally, the album cover extends this vision: the yellow parachute symbolizes curiosity and adventure, while the tree stands for wisdom and life. Between falling and grounding, Doja crafts a metaphor for love and existence.

With VIE, Doja Cat finally finds balance between all her different sides. She raps with intensity, sings with more nuance than ever, and revisits 80s sounds with complete creative freedom.

It’s an intimate yet ambitious album — technical enough to appeal to fans of polished production, but accessible enough to captivate both pop and rap audiences. Doja no longer tries to choose between her identities; she fuses them together, proving she’s comfortable in every lane.

Even if VIE won’t please everyone, one thing is certain: Doja Cat’s talent is undeniable.
